During a working visit to Chegutu, The First Secretary and President, His Excellency, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwacommissioned two landmark projects spearheaded by Zimplats: the Smelter Expansion and the Solar Plant initiative. These developments represent significant progress in Zimbabwe’s industrial beneficiation strategy and energy transition agenda. The expanded smelter facility is expected to enhance domestic processing capacity for platinum group metals, reducing reliance on external refining and increasing value retention within the country. Meanwhile, the solar plant contributes to the national grid’s diversification, supporting sustainable energy goals under Vision 2030.
In addition to the infrastructure commissioning, the President formally presented Community Share Ownership Trust certificates to traditional leaders in the region. This gesture reinforces the government’s commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that local communities benefit directly from extractive sector investments through structured equity participation and social upliftment programs.
