Hwange Thermal Power Station Expansion (Units 7 & 8)

Hwange Thermal Power Station Expansion (Units 7 & 8)

Details: This is the largest power project in Zimbabwe since independence, costing approximately $1.5 billion. It involved the construction of two new units (7 and 8) to add 600MW to the national grid.

Status/Impact: Both units were fully commissioned and synchronized into the grid by August 2023. It has significantly reduced the country’s power deficit and stabilized electricity supply for industrial and domestic use.
